Cayenne Yellow has a slightly sweeter tang and fruity tones than its red cousin, and a little hotter too when ripe. It is significantly milder when immature and still green so wait until the long smooth pods change to rich yellow for a punchy burst of heat: 30,000-50,000 Price for 10 seeds
SOW: from mid-April to end of May, indoors in a warm soil in trays or modules barely covering the seeds as they need light to germinate (can take 10-21 days, warmth at 21C can help)
GROW: when they reach the 2/3 leaf stage (at around 10cm tall) they can be planted into a greenhouse or hardened off and put outside in a warm sheltered spot. You can grow them in the soil, a container or a grow bag. The plants can reach about 90cm tall, Chillies will be produced until the first frosts.
ENJOY: aside from the complex rich flavour the colour adds yet another dimension – chop and add to a rich tomato sauce or sprinkle over pizza or a salad. You can also dry and grind for brightly coloured chilli powder.
