Turnip Golden Ball

£0.50

TURNIP GOLDEN BALL ~ heirloom with fine tasting golden yellow flesh 100 seeds SOW: in March and April. Sow sparingly to minimise need to thin seedlings. GROW: Thin seedlings so that they don’t touch to develop the best roots. The thinnings can be eaten as greens. Water them regularly in dry weather. You can start to pull roots when they are golf ball sized. You can take greens and still grow roots – just pick some leaves (when 10-15cm tall) and leave at least 6 behind so that the roots can still grow. They will sprout more leaves. EAT: It is the slightly soft texture of the flesh that gives rise to its alternative name ‘orange jelly’. Peel before cooking and enjoy them mashed, roasted, in soups and stews.
